Our son, 30 years old, called to tell us what happened when he was a teacher. Said a girl called asked him to meet at a park, she kissed him for about 5 seconds, than stopped. They both left.
At church the next day, the bishop grabbed our son by the arm pulled him into an empty classroom, told him he was a terrible rotten kid, told him not to do anything at church and meet at 3 pm to tell him everything.
I was the scout master. Not a word was said to me about anything.
My son suffered abuse mentally. At school and seminary, everyone was spreading gossip. The bishop told him he would not be allowed to go on a mission. The bishop son was my senior patrol leader and was ordered by his parents to not have anything to do with my son.
As parents, we weren’t sure why the bishop had told his son not to hang around our son. He grew up and became a very stressed and worried person, developing crones disease.
A new bishop came. Our son did go on a mission.
A few years after, our son was talking to another friend about this girl. His dad the new bishop had discovered 4 other boys had all been disciplined like our son from this girl. The bishop said they realized she added to her story claiming much more than five seconds. The bishop realized she was lying.
My son was greatly traumatized and changed his confidence and personal self value.
I was real pissed off to find out 14 years later as the parent. Nothing was said to us as parents. Where does a bishop get the right to get involved and judge and miss judge and accuse and damage a good young man.
