It wasn’t the interviews so much as a combination of the interviews with the fire-and-brimstone chastity lessons. Masturbation was described as an incredibly selfish and shameful act. Then we got the For The Strength of Youth pamphlet which called sexual sins “next to murder”. Then came the interviews asking about masturbation and the copy of “Miracle of Forgiveness”. The result was years of severe depression, guilt, shame, and the feeling I was the only one in the quorum wrestling with sex drive.
It later included panic attacks and terrifying dreams where the Second Coming had arrived, I hadn’t confessed to the bishop and I knew i would be burned. It became difficult forming relationships with members of the opposite sex due to the overwhelming shame.
It’s not just the interviews, it’s an entire system that won’t let youth develop healthy sexuality, and it was profoundly damaging.
