When my son turned 8 the bishop interviewed me to make sure I was worthy to baptize and confirm him. He also wanted to interview my son alone to make sure he was worthy to be baptized. I insisted on sitting in with him, but the bishop told me that wouldn’t be allowed. He said the handbook explicitly prohibits parents from being present. Plus, according to him, it’s not the standard. I ended the meeting by walking out and refusing to follow “the standard”.
A week later he changed his mind and said I could sit in with my son while he was being interviewed. BUT, he made it very clear that this would not be happening again and that when my daughter turned 12 he would be interviewing her alone behind a closed door without me being present. After interviewing my son and declaring him worthy to be baptized, he then interviewed me. He concluded I wasn’t a full tithe payer and would not be allowed to perform the confirmation. That was the last meeting I had with him. I brought this issue to the Stake President about six months ago and haven’t heard anything since. This bishop has done many other abusive things in the realm of unrighteous dominion, but I’ll save that for another time.
