When I was 12, I was interviewed by not the bishop but someone else in the bishopric. Alone in a room with the door closed, I was asked if I had ever masturbated by a man 30 years older than me. When I was 12. I didn’t know what that meant, so I said that no I hadn’t since that was also the answer to “have you ever watched pornography?” and “do you have a boyfriend?”. I looked up what masturbation was as soon as I got home from church that day. And I was horrified. But what horrifies me more is what would have been said if I had asked what masturbation meant during my interview.
